Africans and Black Americans
Is it more important for black Americans to learn about African societies than people who aren't black, or should American blacks think of themselves as totally separate from African people? What could African cultures teach us?

ReplyDeleteI think African society is important for anyone to learn. If a person doesn’t know a lot about the topic why not get more information on it. It shouldn’t be an argument on who should learn about African society because its apart of history. It’s some people job to study African society. American blacks shouldn’t think of themselves as totally separate from Africans because that is there background in some sort of their lifetime. Africans are black Americans. But some African Americans do think in that such manner because no one ever taught them who they came from or they probably think black and African are totally unrelated. People shouldn’t separate themselves from different cultures even though I have myself but I have good reasons. In this case I think American blacks should just learn more about there history and see where they really have came from and understand that African is in their family tree somewhere if they were to break it down like that. African cultures could teach Americans a lot of things. Like for us hard work could be grading papers and waking up I early in the morning for them it hard work is going out hunting for their food and finding ways to survive in the wild life. In other countries humans learn how other humans live. So the African culture could actually open American blacks’ eyes. Every culture is different from one another the climate the geography around it . so the African culture could probably show us how to manage the hot climate in the summer because most of America complain and stay inside for the summer. African culture could show us how everything started like slavery. For insists someone could say where it came from who had more experienced more pain men or women all of our questions could be answered by just looking back into are history/background. That’s why I think anyone should study any society they have interests in or want to know more in. also African blacks shouldn’t separate from others because you might learn from that society and other society’s shouldn’t separate themselves from other society’s either.
I think its important for black americans to learn about african societies than people who arent black. The reason why i say that is because everybody has a negative effect on us. Also thinkin that we are bad people when we are not. When black people learn about there history they take it seriously. For us we have a lot of questions when we learn about it like where did all blacks started to live. When other people look at it they wont care. One reason why i say that they wont care is because thats not apart of them. Second reason why i say that is because they didnt go through what we went through. which was slavery. They will have less questions about it then black people would. We should seperate from others because everybody thinks where the worst group there is.

ReplyDeleteI think it’s important that all black Americans should learn about African societies even people that aren’t black too. Everyone want to know where you from? What’s your background and everything? African cultures teach us a lot of things like today I learn things that I didn’t know about Africa. And also because what if a person or teacher ask you what you know about African society and their culture and you don’t know what they are…so that’s why all black American and people who aren’t should learn about African society. But I think all black American should know there history more then people who aren’t because African and American is the same, got the same blood and everything. If the other people aren’t black that doesn’t know about African but want to know they should find information or research about it. African culture could show us how everything started like slavery. Everyone came to America for a reason. Maybe it was better for them to come to America. But back to I was saying about black American should know everything about African culture and society more than people who aren’t black. I don’t think that African should be separated from black American or black American shouldn’t be separated from African because they both got something in commend and for them to learn each other I think they should switch places and see how things goes. But we all know African and American had hard times back then and until now but soon it’s going to be over no worries. But I think it’s important for black Americans to learn about African societies than people who aren’t black because we should know more then the people who aren’t. It’s our societies and culture too.
Being an african,I see it as a priviledge to comment on this blog.Offcourse i think African-Americans should actually know more about their background.Like a lot of people say,"You can not move forward if you do not know where you came from."As a people i strongly beleive that the black community especially this generation should init and teach each other about our background.
ReplyDeleteSlavery is basically the foundation of the seperation of africans.Like the theory states, all life begun in Africa,I strongly believe that each and every African-American somehow came from Africa. It hurts me as an African when African-Americans do not consider what our ancestors went through for us to be recognised as part of the population/community here in America.Slaves were refered to as "niggers" by the white people as they abused, killed, illtreated, took advantage of and/or raped us as a black people (the list is endless). The point I am trying to get to is the fact that now ,we refer to each other as niggers ( i am also guilty )today and clearly this shows unappreciation to our ancestors/forefathers.
Furthermore it is necessary that we know a lot more than we do in this issue because we could not know, maybe we are somehow related.Like AdeBola Adeeko stated marks were made on slaves as they parted their different communities so that if they miracuosly met again they would easily recognize people they know or people they are related to.The crazy thing is that our lack of knowledge affects this issue because maybe you are married to your sister/brother.
So my word of advise, find out as much more as you can about your background and increase "POWER TO THE BLACK COMMUNITY."
I think its important for black americans to learn about african societies.I also believe that whites should too.The reason i say white is because i want them to see where i come from.Africans are black americans so theres nothing really different.African americans are citizens of the United States who have origins in any of the black populations of Africa. Most African Americans are the direct descendants of captive Africans who survived the slavery era within the boundaries of the present United States. Its not really nothing africans can teach us because we are all from africa. The majority of African Americans are Protestant of who will follow the historically black churches.Music now of days is just the same as african because we really get all our rhythm from african and their cultures.African americans who are having origins in any of the black racial groups of Africa. Most African Americans are the direct descendants of captive

I definitely agree with Jameira. She is totally right people should research their background. Somehow “some” people tend to dispute the fact that they have African blood in side them. To a certain extant I would blame the television industry for this. By the use of propaganda America has placed in peoples’ brains that Africa is a terrible, uncivilized and underdeveloped nation.Partialy this is true however it only takes place in certain parts of Africa (not all).Once again Jameira. She stated that,” Africans are Black Americans”, I am afraid to tell you that you are wrong Jameira. She, its actually the other way round,” Black Americans are Africans”. (Just friendly criticizing.)
So my word of advice, find out as much more as you can about your background and increase "POWER TO THE BLACK COMMUNITY

It important that we as African Americans to learn about our African societies because that our history.Unfortunely for African Americans we don't have the opportunities like of ethincal groups to like about our African cultures.why?.. because it was tooken from just five hundred years ago during the slavery Era the first slaves like their history tradition, the way they dress just everything they had was tooking away form them. and as time when by and the first slaves that came to america all die I guess the slaves of their day did'nt really care about there history so im guessing that why african american today don't know about our culture. All we know that is we came from some country in the wesrtern part of africa. But that does nessacry mean that we can't not learn about culture.
ReplyDeleteSo the question you ask is It more important for black Americans to learn about African societies than people who aren't black the answer Iam going to give is yes We should because that OUR orgin culture and that where our history as black people came from. I don't know all the african societies but from what i see on tv is like it very unitied from special ceremonies to ritual and stuff.I Think what these soiceties teach us is how unitied african are and not taking thing for granting like family and material things is NOT worth living for.

I think we have the best culture on earth because its so different and colorful in that matter.I Think what these soiceties teach us is how unitied african are and not taking thing for granting like family.Like in a african socitey i think family is the most important moral you can have and material things is NOT worth living for. What i man buy that is having the lasest sneaker, diamonds and cars /(etc) is not a important factor so i that african societies could teach us that.

(sorry by the way i tho i should addd more my fault)
As everyone knows Blacks in America originated from the continent of Africa. They were brought here hundreds of years ago as slaves to work on the plantations. They were sent on a slave ship from Africa. Most of the cultures that were brought along with them have faded away as time went by. I think it is good for Black Americans to learn about the African Society. However, I do not think it is more important for Black Americans to learn more about Life in Africa than any other race. I think it is equally important for everyone who is interested in getting to know a particular country’s way of life. Teachers come from all different races so in order to teach about African culture they must learn it first.
ReplyDeleteAfrica is a continent with many rich and diverse cultures. There are numerous different languages and many different tribes, all with their particular customs and beliefs. As an African American, I think we should try to know more about where we came from. This is part of who we really are. Here is where our great grand parents came from. We should even seek to identify and seek out our tribes. Even if we may not believe in some of the traditions and religious practices we should be interested in what is going on in our homeland.
There is a lot that we can learn from how the people live in Africa. Most of the country has remained the same culturally over the years. There is so much to learn about how they celebrate big events like weddings and funerals. If there is one particular think I admire about Africans is their singing. Singing is central point of every celebration.. Sadly the majority of Africans have been made to endure economic hardships, but they have learned to survive. We can learn lessons on the sacrifices women have made in raising children. Things that we take for granted like a free education sadly might not be in some of the poorest countries. I think of some of us who are so careless with our education here while there are those who are so eager to learn yet cannot avail themselves of a proper education.
Madiyyah say: I think that anyone should be able to learn bout African societies it shouldn’t matter what color are you, you still had the right to get an education to learn about different things. African American is black. Why not learn more about our culture. People should have the right to learn about places that their not from. People shouldn’t be separating their selves from each other and neither society. Everyone has the right to do whatever they feel because its free country. People should study places and their culture and how they do things. People learn a lot about the country like what they wear, what they do, how they speak, what type of laws they have, what type of food they have and plenty of more. African culture taught Americans a lot of things. Africa brought food and animals to us like lion, kangaroo, bee’s oats wheat and plenty of other food. They also gave us clothing material like leather, fur, wool. They taught people how to talk in languages. African culture can teach us how Africans lived and what they did to survive. Slavery is the cause of the Africans separating. Everyone came to America to get out of a place where they weren’t happen and couldn’t survive and live their lives. Societies can teach us a lot of things that we need to know bout that country. Africans were treated wrong and shipped off to other slave’s owner just because they didn’t to what they were told. They sold things to survive and to provide people. They traded material for better things. They planted a lot vetagable to tell for money. Teachers who taught history had to learned everything that they needed to know over five hundred years ago. For an example the events that happened, people that died. War. Independence, slavery and many more. A lot of people made a lot of sacrificing just stay alive and keep their families protected. A lot of slaves couldn’t learn to read or write item because that would give them the chance to run away and be far .I don’t know one should be treated differently from others because it’s not fair or right.
